ScoreGolf Article: Weight Loss for Golfers

Weight Loss for Golfers

If it were, it would be directed toward the masses. Today’s post is not. It’s for golfers. It’s for people who are passionate about the game, love to play but through time and lifestyle have put on excessive weight to the point it’s affecting their quality of life as well as how they perceive themselves.

At this year’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., I met a guy who has enabled thousands of golfers in 32 countries to modify and improve their eating habits. Larry Jacobs is not a top 100 swing instructor. But through a golf-related platform where you make birdies, pars, bogeys and others throughout the day, he is helping golfers become thin and healthier without dieting. The program’s success rate is amazing.

“What I tell people is, unlike golf, this is a game you can win, by shooting even par, under par or just a little over par just about every day of your life,” Jacobs explained. “We make the whole thing like a game of golf. By applying what I teach in our Weight Loss for Golfers tele-seminar series I explain that it’s not how much you eat but what you eat that matters most. Effectively, I can show any golfer how to go from being a fat storer to a fat burner in two weeks or less without dieting, counting calories or starving.”

Jacobs’ program is getting widespread notoriety. It’s been prominently featured in U.S. publications Golf DigestGolf World, been accorded time on ABC News and become a regular on Matt Adams’ Sirius/XM PGA Tour Radio Fairways of Life program. Adams owns that show. He therefore controls who his advertisers are. Just the other day he made reference to Jacobs’ program.

“If I didn’t believe in it, if I didn’t think it was helping people it wouldn’t be part of my show,” Adams said on-air.

Allen Doyle has a pretty good story to tell. Here’s what the two time U.S. Senior Open winner had to say about Weight Loss for Golfers.

“In my first month on the program I lost about 14 pounds and went down two notches on my belt. I am definitely lighter, thinner and feel great. I am no longer storing fat. I’m burning it. I find the plan easy to do at home AND on the road. I am now much more in control of my food, fitness and my health. Best of all, the program is custom built around foods that I liked and that I would get plenty to eat, any time I was hungry.”

Jacobs calls his program eating clean. It’s about the right proteins, the right carbohydrates and the right fats and oils, which are crucial. When those right foods are balanced by physical activity there’s a multiplier effect to lower weight and better health.

“We now know that the majority of illnesses and chronic diseases currently so prevalent in North America are largely preventable and in some cases fully reversible simply by eating certain foods and avoiding others,” he said. “The foods you eat have a lasting impact on virtually every aspect of your health.”

Jacobs is quick to point out high-tech tools are not a requirement for his program. A knife and fork, a pair of sneakers, a good blueprint and the right mindset is all he’s asking golfers to bring to the table. Jacobs serves as a Golfer’s Food and Weight Loss coach.

He has a high-profile clientele. Along with Doyle, Roger Maltbie, Champions Tour player Fred Funk, Master PGA professional Don Drahan (father of PGA Tour player D.J. Trahan) and Todd Graves of the Todd Graves Golf Academy are all on the Weight Loss for Golfers program.

Jacobs’ bottom line: “You ate your way into this mess and you can eat your way out of it.”
