A stroke, sometimes called a brain attack, occurs when a clot blocks the blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in or around the brain bursts. In either case, parts of the brain become damaged or die.
The chance that you will survive and recover from a stroke is higher if you get emergency treatment right away. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States.
For stroke survivors, recovery can take months or years. Many people who have had a stroke never fully recover.
The best way to “cure” a stroke is to NOT have one. The are several simple things you can do to Prevent and Lower your risk of a stroke.
Eat a healthy diet. Choosing healthful meal and snack options can help you avoid stroke and its complications.
General guidelines:
Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Eating foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber can help prevent high blood cholesterol.
Limiting salt or sodium in your diet can also lower your blood pressure.
To prevent stroke the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends…
- Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk for stroke.
- Be active. Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
- The Surgeon General recommends that adults should engage in moderate-intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
- Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoking greatly increases your risk for stroke. So, if you don’t smoke, don’t start. If you do smoke, quitting will lower your risk.
- Limit alcohol use. Avoid drinking too much alcohol, which causes high blood pressure.
If you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease, here are 4 simple steps you can take to lower your risk for stroke.
- Have your cholesterol checked it’s a simple blood test.
- Monitor your blood pressure. High blood pressure has no symptoms, so be sure to have it checked on a regular basis.
- Manage your diabetes. If you have diabetes, closely monitor your blood sugar levels.
Bottom Line – learning to do your foods right has a profound influence on your health.
My Weight Loss for Golfers food plan is an Anti Inflammatory approach to food and will help you protect your health for the long term.
My Thin for Life Golfers Program concentrates on:
– How to do your Proteins right
– How to do your Carbohydrates right
– How to do your Fats and Oils right
– How to do your beverages right
– How to do your Exercise right
– It clears up ALL the confusion
Why do I recommend this…
Because it’s truly amazing what you can accomplish with some simple low tech tools:
- 1. A knife and fork (which is how most people dig their grave)
- A pair of sneakers
- The right Road Map and Blueprint (this is crucial since most everyone has the WRONG information) If it was as simple as eat less and exercise more, 70% of the population would NOT be Overweight or Obese!
- The right Coach who instills in you the right mindset. (That’s where I come in. I’ve been getting thru to people in this arena for the last 28 years. I’ve helped thousands of golfers in 22 countries succeed who never thought they could)
Also–I’m one of you. By that I mean…
– I’m an avid golfer who wants to live a long and healthy life so I can continue to drive myself crazy by playing this great game til the day I die.
– I’ve been Fat and out of shape and not in the best of health. Now I’m NOT!
– I’ve threaded the needle and gotten out of the FAT TRAP myself as well as helping everyone else do the same. The reason is simple. Because I know the way Outta here.
– I make the game of weight loss just like golf. (eg: There a front nine and a back nine, birdies, pars, bogeys and others.) If you hit a bad shot, you’ll know exactly what to do.
*This special gift I have of getting thru to us golfers, and the golf analogies I use really resonate well and make a huge difference.
As I like to say, unlike golf this is a game you WIN.
By shooting par, under par, or just a little over par, just about every day of your life.
So to read between the lines…
The moral of the story is…
