Make More 5 Footers–Get into Better Golf Shape

Here are a few more goodies from Butch Harmon and Stan Utley from the
Titleist forum. (Your e-Mail feedback has been great, I will continue to share
a few more TIPS in my next post. Yesterday’s tips are pasted at the bottom of this
e-Mail–In case you missed them)

Today’s Tips from Butch and the “Boys” from the Titleist Forum:

Tip #1 Butch said The secret to hitting it square every time is:

Knowing where the club face is at ALL times. He said for most people,
it starts with a good grip.He didn’t elaborate much, but there’s still
a lot of truth in that statement.
*Sidebar—> For me I never really could feel  where the club
face was very well, until I followed and old Harvey Penick Redbook tip:

Which was to practice taking my grip on a yardstick or better yet two
wooden yardsticks taped together to make it a little thicker.

(I’m no Butch Harmon and just a Volunteer Special Olympics Golf
Coach with a 4 handicap, who knows how to Show Golfers How
to Lose Weight and get Healthy–I just wanted to mention that the
yardstick drill really helped me grip it better and ultimately hit it
squarer and straighter.

Tip #2 Stan Utley Putting Nuggets

The key to making 5-6 footers is hitting them solid.
-Make sure the putter face is square to the path.
-You can’t make a putt–you can only make a stroke.
-Swing the putter HEAD not the HANDLE
-The time it takes to make the stroke should be the same.
(speed and length of stroke will differ based on distance)

In every post, I always make an effort to include a Healthy Food,

Here’s  a simple, yet powerful “healthy resolution” to place you and your
family on the path to optimal wellness.

Healthy Food Tip #1

Go 100% whole grain.
Always choose 100% whole grain breads, cereals and grain products over
their refined counterparts, like white bread and whiterice. Refined carbs
predispose to weight gain and increase your risk of type 2diabetes and
heart disease. In contrast, true whole grains offer a spectacular package
of health-boosting nutrients and have been shown to improve metabolism,
promote heart health, decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes, and provide
protectionagainst many forms of cancer.  Look for “100% whole grain”
or “100% whole wheat”on the package or label.  Physically intact whole
grains like brown rice, oatmeal, barley, quinoa etc. are the healthiest options.

Healthy Food Tip #2 Dump your Sugary Beverages. Sugar fortified
beverages like sodas, fruit drinks, and sports drinks, offer zero nutritional
value, increase your risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome
and cost you money. Clean, pure water is dirt cheap and 100% healthy so make
this beverage your first choice.
